Rhinebeck, Ny with a population of 8,000, is a busy place on summer weekends — tourists and day-trippers are attracted to antiques and crafts outlets and Hudson River scenery — and the rumored Clinton wedding isn't shutting things down.
Chelsea Clinton, 30, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, is expected to marry Marc Mezvinsky, 32, at a riverside estate in Rhinebeck on Saturday.
For those that live here, we know there will be quite a few people in town this Saturday, but as State Police Maj. Michael Kopy said Thursday, the influx of guests, reporters, celebrities and curiosity seekers wouldn't come close to the crowds at the Dutchess County Fair. Independence Day 2010. The United States of America turns 234 years old this weekend. 234 years! In the big picture America is barley a teenager compared to how old many of the other countries are. Yet in 234 years, look at what we have accomplished as a Nation.
Do we have our problems, you bet we do! Just as any family has problems. Our ideals were simple and to that we still hold true today. Yes, we will always have our struggles but with that we also achieve accomplishments beyond belief.
Let's think back a few hundred years ago. What was life like? No doubt, it is better now than then. But what I really want to remember is what our forefathers went through to create this country.
