Happy 234th Birthday America!

Independence Day 2010. The United States of America turns 234 years old this weekend. 234 years! In the big picture America is barley a teenager compared to how old many of the other countries are. Yet in 234 years, look at what we have accomplished as a Nation.
Do we have our problems, you bet we do! Just as any family has problems. Our ideals were simple and to that we still hold true today. Yes, we will always have our struggles but with that we also achieve accomplishments beyond belief.
Let's think back a few hundred years ago. What was life like? No doubt, it is better now than then. But what I really want to remember is what our forefathers went through to create this country.
First, just to get here you had to risk death. Once hear you had to fight to survive. Entire colonies were wiped out by sickness and then we had the Indians who's country we took from them. We forced them to change their ways and adopt ours. We fought hard for this. Then we had to fight to gain our independence from the mother land. Fighting was part of who we are. Fight to live, fight to survive, fight to remain independent.
Our founding fathers risked their lives trying to set up an independent country. New York had a mobile government. That is we had to keep moving our meeting locations because if caught, you would be killed. I wonder if politicians today would be willing to risk death in order to protect their constituents. Don't answer, we already know.
Yes, a lot has changed in 234 years, but some things remain the same. We still have people risking their lives to get here. We still have citizens putting their lives on the line to protect our freedom and we still have our family troubles.
Happy Birthday America!
